SMP for Alopecia, Manchester

Scalp micropigmentation for alopecia in Manchester camouflages affected areas with tiny pigment dots that look like hair follicles or stubble, and can add density where hair is thinning. At Micro Magic SMP it costs £500 to £1500.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that can be an effective solution for individuals with alopecia, a condition characterised by hair loss. SMP can work for alopecia in several ways:

- Camouflage
- SMP involves the application of tiny pigment deposits to the scalp, replicating the appearance of hair follicles or stubble. By strategically placing these pigments in the areas affected by alopecia, it can create the illusion of a fuller head of hair. This is particularly useful for individuals with alopecia areata or alopecia totalis, where hair loss can be extensive.
- Density Enhancement
- For people with alopecia, especially in the early stages, SMP can be used to add density to areas where hair is thinning but not completely gone. By matching the colour of the pigments to the individual’s natural hair colour, SMP can make the existing hair appear thicker and more substantial.
- Scar Concealment
- Some forms of alopecia, such as scarring alopecia or traction alopecia, can leave behind visible scars on the scalp. SMP can be used to camouflage these scars by filling them in with pigment, making them less noticeable.
- Creating a Defined Hairline
- For individuals with receding hairlines due to alopecia, SMP can help create a more defined and natural-looking hairline. This can improve the overall appearance and boost self-confidence.
- Maintenance-Free
- Unlike some other hair restoration procedures, SMP is relatively low maintenance. It does not require daily care, such as the application of topical treatments or the use of wigs, making it a convenient option for those with alopecia.
- Immediate Results
- SMP typically provides immediate results. After the procedure, the scalp will appear as if it has a freshly shaved head of hair, and this can be especially beneficial for those seeking a quick and effective solution for their hair loss.

It’s important to note that while SMP can be a suitable option for many individuals with alopecia, it may not be the right choice for everyone. Factors such as the type and severity of alopecia, skin type, and individual preferences should be considered. Consulting with our qualified SMP technician is crucial to determine if SMP is a suitable solution and to discuss the desired outcome and potential risks.
It’s essential to choose a qualified and experienced SMP practitioner like us. Your new hairline is one of the most important elements of having Scalp Micropigmentation and we are dedicated to getting it right. There are many hairline styles that can be created, and we will work with you to create the perfect one for you. SMP is a long-lasting solution, but it may require touch-up sessions every few years to maintain its appearance, as the pigmentation can fade over time.

Questions before you book
Is the treatment safe?
The treatment is perfectly safe, we dispose of all needles after each treatment and the equipment is cleaned after every client.
Are the results permanent?
Results are permanent, but touch-ups are needed every 1-3 years. Depending on lifestyle and immune system, it can be longer before a touch-up is required.
How long does the treatment take?
The treatment is done over three visits, and the length of each visit depends on the treatment you are having. Visit one will take between 2 and 8 hours, then there is a 14-day gap before visit two, which will again take around 2 to 8 hours. We then recommend a 4-week gap before the final visit, which will take approximately 2 to 8 hours.
How will you get the right colour shade?
In the first session we won’t go too dark, and we will see how the colour has settled. At the second and third sessions we can add more colour if required to get the perfect colour match.
How long will the redness last?
Each person is different and redness can last anything from 1-4 days.
Do I have to pay all in one go?
A deposit of £100 to £300, depending on the treatment being booked, is required to secure your booking; this is non-refundable. The remainder is split equally into three payments, one paid at each session.
